Took the point, euh not that easy ; first, backwards :
http://www.voynich.net/Arch/2002/04/msg00087.html http://www.voynich.net/Arch/2002/12/msg00157.html http://www.voynich.net/Arch/2002/12/msg00173.htmlThen onwards :
http://www.clavmon.cz/clavis/SI/extenso/1595_Bruna.htm" Martinus Santinus tridentinus, rhetor. "
http://www.clavmon.cz/clavis/SI/extenso/1596_Cruml.htm(this one I like very very much J )
" Martinus Santinus. "
Keeping it short, it seems he was a Jesuit (the two latter links
I think are mainly about Jesuits).
If there is only one MS ( Martinus Santinus!) he could be " tridentinus ", id est originating
from Trent ( now Italy) famous for his council :

Yes. He was a well-known Jesuit mathematician.
It is not particularly surprising that Moretus
wrote to Kircher, and probably v.v. (I cannot say
right now whether any letters from Kircher to
Moretus have survived).
Personally, I am even more interested in the
Jesuit called Santini or Santinus, who has also
written to Kircher, and who had is mentioned
twice by Marci, both times together with Baresch.
Cheers, Rene
