Hi Jean,

Rene and Jorge, seemed to be obvious for the list, perhaps was wrong on this one.

No, my point was that the info there is from Rene anyway, he should be quoted.

Jan: He was famous for his healing skills all around the town Krumlov and vicinity, he healed the burghers as well."

the quotation there: "longe lateque celebratissimo"= long time and widely most celebrated
also quote from Rene ( http://www.voynich.nu/curricula.html#sinapius )

"Martin Schaffner (born in Olomouc around 1564, died in Krumlov in 1608), who not only cured the members and students of the college with the medicine he prepared, but also had a flourishing practice in the city and its surroundings. Under the guidance of this experienced man, after having graduated from the Krumlov Gymnasium, Horcicky completed his training in the art of pharmacy in two years."

Jan: As for Horczizky being born near Krumlov: Last Year, Rene found H. was born in Bojanovice. There are two Bojanovice in Moravia nad only Dolni Bojanovice in Bohemia, rather far from Krumlov. One of those Bojanovice is however close to Olomouc, the birthplace of Schaffner."

>Questions by Jean: Any reference to Olomouc as Shaffner's birthplace?
yes, see above quotation by Rene.

>Comment by Jean: The Jesuit library of Krumlov was moved to Prague; any reference to a subsequent move to Vienna?

No references, just that the Prague Jesuit archive was moved from Prague to Vienna in 1773, so unless it was repossesed by somebody in Prague (Jesuits were not here any more, sinc ethey were abolished), Vienna is most likely the place.
