VMs: Updated transcription?

Dear all,
for quite some time I wonder, if there have been any attempts to
update the transcription of VMs according to the new sid files. I am
almost sure there have been done some private partial corrections,
but unless I have missed something important, there has not been done
any systematic work, at least it was not published on the list. Isn't
it strange? Looking at the new sidfiles, one can immediately see,
that most of the transcription errors and ambiguities could be easily
corrected. The question is - why don't we do it?

My idea is to distribute the effort among voluteers from the VMs
mailing list. Everybody willing to contribute could correct "his"
dozen pages and we could have a much improved transcription within
few weeks.

If there is interest in such a project, I think I could set up a web
page, where anybody could come, register, and then "lock" a few ms
pages. These pages would then be flagged as being processed, in order
to avoid parallel processing of some and omitting of some other
pages. After processing the pages the same person would upload the
processed page, and the page would be flagged as finished.

I thing the EVA interlinear transcription file in the vesrion
compiled by Jorge Stolfi could be very effectively used for this
purpose. It already contains a lot of useful information, the
corrector would have a reference in hand and the corrected version
could be simply added as a further line in the interlinear file (plus
possibly some new comments by the corrector in the header of the
page).

This is just a quick outline of my thoughts, I am leaving out
technical details; they can be of course subject to discussion.

I think the availability of the new images really calls for a
complete update of the transcription and it is not so difficult to
make it, if we work together - don't you agree?

Regards

Lukas
