Zitat von Tammie Mort <tammiemort@xxxxxxx>:

i haven't said anything yet, or introduced myself. However, I would like to express my agreement with the thought of a high quality publication of the Ms. I would buy about 5 or more copies.

Still, preparing and publishing a high-quality reproduction of the VM will be a very costly experiment. Eg, I own a copy of a book about the Bayeux Tapestry which reproduces only a few samples of the BT in an amount of detail which would statisfy the average VM researcher, and that thing already cost in the 60€/US$ range. And mind you that the BT is a much more popular item than the VM, ie will sell in higher numbers.

A good point, alas. Octavo was considering publishing the VMs, but that would be on CD-ROM, so that would have different economics.

I know that there are facsimile publishers who apparently publish rare manuscripts. I looked around a bit and found these:

http://www.publisher411.com/facsimiles.html

http://www.umilta.net/facsimiles.html

http://www.pryor-publications.co.uk/childrenssinging.html

I don't know what it takes to make such a publication economically viable, although it is obviously done. Why is Octavo contemplating it? Can anyone offer further insight?

Medium-quality editions in low numbers can otoh be produced at a reasonable price at shops like "Books on Demand" (www.bod.de); I'm sure there are comparable services out there in the US. I've published with BoD and am quite statisfied with them.

What is this kind of service called? To do a search, we need a name. Would we get something superior to the Yale copyflow?
