Indonesian, wasn't it? I remember reading that
in the East the tendency would be to address men
before women, whereas here one would prefer
'Ladies and Gentlemen', 'Mesdames et Messieurs'.

So there goes that theory (?) or perhaps it is
more subtle, more complicated, e.g. the order
changes when national feelings are evoked.
