RE: VMs: Reasearching the VMs at Beinecke

Hello Jean,

Well, I am not quite sure I follow you. Missing folios were either removed as a set by complete vellum copies or they were removed by half of the vellum being cut out (as for example was done with folio 12, which really irks me). The cut out vellum once exited with the current binding and for whatever reason was removed. Whether or not full vellum inserts once existed and have since been removed is unknown to me, except for the skips in the numbering scheme, which may be somewhat suspect. If there is proof of actual missing text (prior transcriptions or bleed across), then sure I would suspect that they once existed. So, I would keep pursuing what investigative work I can. As far as the logic of the layout is concerned, I am uneasy with the current binding of the manuscript. This may be because major sections were grouped seperately and developed by separate scribes for varying reasons. And also there is the question of missing folios, which is certainly very possible, given the number of times the manuscript has been rebound and vandalized.

Regards,
Dana

Hi Dana,

Many thanks for this; it's a sort of scoop since many
studies mentionned missing pages till now.

My understanding is that the numbering matter apart,
you did not find any evidence of missing development
of picture, am I wrong or not?

Regards,

Jean Artero
