Apart from your observation about alternate lines appearing slightly 
cramped in the biological section (they certainly do), have you found any 
other support for the idea that some pages could have been written in two 
(alternate line) passes?

If the two sets of alternate lines on a page have different statistical 
profiles, it could well be that each set has its own cipher or codebook... 
this wouldn't surprise me at all. :-/

PS: with your interest in Medieval German, you may be interested to know 
that Gerry Kennedy <gerry@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> mentioned to me that a 
lady from Dublin recently contacted him. IIRC, she has been looking at the 
VMS for some decades and believes that it's written in a kind of High 
German mirror writing? Sounds like it could be right up your street. :-)
