I think you'll find if you look a little more closely that what you actually choose between in the options is whether you want either (a) to receive incoming mails as they were originally sent (ie, text or HTML), or (b) to receive all incoming mails as if they had been sent as HTML.


What this means is: if someone sends an HTML mail (and many email programs now have this as their default), yahoo can (and often does) add an HTML advert to it. Or, if you ask it to automatically convert all your mail to HTML (like you, I don't have this option enabled), this could be true of all your yahoogroups incoming mail.

Therefore: if *everyone* in a yahoogroup remembered to only send text mail, then, yes, it would function as you describe, without these ghastly 300x200 HTML adverts getting appended at all.

However, the chances of this are fairly slim. :-(
