VMs: Re: Mediaeval book written entirely in cipher
Hi everyone,
Just two more Giovanni Fontana links to go, and that's my lot. :-)
(1) This page (Italian, on the history of pyrotechnics) namechecks Giovanni
de Fontana's 1420 manuscript, held by the Biblioteca Nazionale di Monaco.

(2) A Belgian site briefly mentions him: it also has a larger jpeg of
Fontana's magic-lantern-projected devil, with his cipher lettering being
slightly clearer:-

It's doesn't appear to be a shorthand alphabet, but then again, neither
does it particularly remind me of any of the Milanese cipher alphabets I've
seen (which date from circa 1450-1500). :-/
Cheers, .....Nick Pelling.....
