Re: VMs: VMS Thumbnail images
Dear all,
when putting forward the suggestion of producing
a set of (bigger-than-)thumbnail images of VMs
pages, I wasn't specifically thinking of Yale
images, and I wasn't specifically thinking of
Takeshi's pictures either.
I agree that the issue should be handled with
enough care.
I also have a vague recollection that several
people have set up web pages with all publicly
available VMs images, and this amounts to almost
the entire MS.
I furthermore have a set of images which could
be usable. They don't come from the Beinecke,
but are a copy of Friedman's private copy of
the MS, for which Gabriel and I have previously
got official permission to use it. This would need
to be reinforced for the web usage, but the
chances are good.
So, I agree that we should probably wait with
a publication on the internet until all of
this is more clear.
I am away for about 2 weeks, but will be ready
to take this up again after that.
By the way Petr: I agree that Prague is a very
special city. But (since you're asking) I don't
fully agree with the suggestion that NL doesn't
have any. It is of course true that in Holland
everything is smaller, and the only city of any
size (Amsterdam) is completely run over by
foreign tourists and the trade that comes with
that (plus some undesirable trades that were
always there). Rotterdam is probably the main
source for your statement, and of course it is
a city without a heart (since it was removed
a couple of decades ago).
Some of the nicer towns are Delft, Leiden and
Utrecht. But for really nice towns in Holland
you have to look a bit further away. These
are Groningen (where I've never been) and
Maastricht (where I've been a couple of times).
Or go to Breda. These places are really nice,
especially on a sunny spring or summer day.
And in Breda the local dialect is still quite
understandable (as opposed to the other two).
Cheers, Rene
