to resemble depictions of Mars or Ares. Though I believe the stars
represent the Pleiades more than Taurus itself, but I have not studied the
configuration that closely.
Without a telescope, only six stars can be seen in the Pleiades; seven for
someone with good eyes.

If this is a planet that would leave Venus (uh, no, being as Venus is a
woman) and Mercury (The other planets were unknown at the time of this
document). Mercury is a better match for this drawing - but doubtful
(though Mercury does pass through Taurus). This depiction is probably Sol
(Helios) who also appears clean-faced.
As I said in my reply to Gabriel, when the Moon is in that phase, Mercury
and Venus
cannot be near it.

That is another of the frustrating things about the Voynich--there are darn
few
of the symbols commonly used in astronomy/astrology present, making it hard
to identify anything.

Now, that's an interesting observation. Maybe the portrait can be identified
from
a Roman coin. It's a new avenue of inquiry, at any rate. Good shot.
