VMs: Follow up
After reviewing the text I mapped into a grid (earlier message/excel
file), I wanted to verify that the encode/decode concept I was working
on worked. After all, if I can't make the code look similar to Voynich
with English, it probably would not work well with other languages
either.
Here is what I did:
1) Map all english letters to a number. For this step I did not try to
sort, eliminate, or otherwise change the order. a=1 b=2 ... z=26 A=27
B=28 ... Z=52
2) Then I made a random sentence:
"Turn off the TV and go read a book"
3) I then mapped the letters into several 10x6 grid rows (the value of
the columns are 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32). Each row is a letter. b=2 so it
would fill in as 0x0000
000013
124862
00xxx0x T
1x0x0x0 u
200xxx0 r
30xxx00 n
4000000
5xxxxxo o
60xx000 f
70xx000 f
8000000
900x0x0 t
000013
124862
0000x00 h
1x0x000 e
2000000
30xxx0x T
40000xx V
5000000
6x00000 a
70xxx00 n
800x000 d
9xxxxxx
etc.
The only rule I used for this was that row 9 could not be all 0s. This
is a rule I find in my results of graphing the Voynich paragraphs I have
done so far. If row 9 is all 0s I make them all x's.
4) I then mapped *columns* to Voynich letters. I did not try to be
cute. I just mapped columns as follows:
0 - q
1 - o
2 - l
3 - k
4 - ch
5 - a
6 - e
7 - r
8 - d
9 - y
the Voynich that came out was:
oa qkaee qolkaery qlka olay q oeey
kry okrdy qkry chy kchy qochady qoky
qochey oy ky y olk qolky oly olky yy
If you paste this into MS Word and give it the EVA font it is striking
how "voynichese" it looks. I could see that with very few rules over
which character to choose when there are multiples it could be almost
perfect.
Next step - I plan to fill out voynich grids from the entire set of
characters in f76r and convert that down to numbers. That will allow me
to produce a number frequency chart and try to convert those numbers
back into characters.
Any ideas/suggestions? I am sure something like this has probably been
tried before - what success/failures did you see?
