I should perhaps also have added that Owen Gingerich is Research Professor of Astronomy and History of Science at Harvard, so his Alfonsine table calculation is fairly likely to be correct. :-)

His original comments to me on his method of calculation were as follows:-

	Below I have added the Alfonsine positions compared to those you sent.
	It took a little time to get up to speed with this research program, to
	understand whether it calculated for midnight or noon at Toledo, etc. I
	have assumed that Crete is 2.4 hours = .1 day east of Toledo. The
	position for the sun comes out quite close, but the moon is surprisingly
	far off, especially considering that the Alfonsine position is within a
	degree and a half of the actual moon (uncorrected for parallax).
	There is no alternative time that will bring everything into agreement.
