VMs: Kraus and Beinecke...
Hi everyone,
A quick note on Kraus, before I forget it: MS 407 (Albergati Bible, Italy,
1428) was "[a]cquired from H. P. Kraus in 1969 as the gift of Edwin J.
Beinecke."
http://webtext.library.yale.edu/beinflat/pre1600.MS407.htm
By comparison, our favourite MS 408 was "[g]iven to the Beinecke Library in
1969 by H. P. Kraus (Cat. 100, pp. 42-44, no. 20) who had purchased it from
the estate of Ethel Voynich."

So, in 1969 Beinecke (the man) bought a 1428 bible from Kraus & donated it
to Beinecke (the library) - and Kraus then gave the VMS to Beinecke (the
library). Coincidence?
Perhaps there was something of an academic shadow over the VMS, and this
was the best way to "acquire" the VMS without actually acquiring it (if you
get my drift)? Just a thought! :-o
BTW, the Yale MS408 listing is also worth a read: there are a number of
positive and negative photostats listed in there (in box H and temporary
folder N) - could they actually be the rotographs? Has anyone looked at these?
Cheers, .....Nick Pelling.....
