I suspect that the opposite was more likely the case. Voynich seems to have 
been very protective of the VMS. Very few individuals probably ever had 
direct access to the actual document prior to its reaching Beinecke. Voynich 
was quite willing to share copies of the manuscript in a effort to have it 
deciphered. The 5 person committee I believe was established to ensure the 
protection of the VMS. My understanding is that all members of the committee 
had to approve of the sale of the VMS. After Ethel Voynich passed away Anne 
Nill (one of the members on the committee) worked for Hans P. Kraus who 
eventually purchased the manuscript.
