VMs: Modified Vigenere tableau and Gallows glyph set
What would happen to the statistics if the gallows were an indicator of
column and row shift and not encoded characters?
>From F1r.p1 f could mean use row below that indicated by next glyph (a in
this case) to decode next plaintext character. It could be for one plain
text character only or could start a new path.
t could mean move one column across. Each gallows type could indicate a
shift. As the pattern changes with each shift could be used to mask the
algorithm. The only problem with this, and it is a big one, are the number
of similar word endings. I doubt that they would be preserved unless I'm
missing something.
It all depends on what the plain text contained. Someone with enough time
could have put nonsense strings into the text in such a way as to preserve
this and intermingle the nonesense with the actual text. A bit of a stretch
of the imagination.
Could anyone tell me if this column row shift mid 'sentence' would be easily
detectable? I don't ask much do I? One of these days I'll shut up and do it
myself. (If only I had the time!)
