Thank you very much for the link to Antoine Casanova's web pages.
Although unfortunately for me the pdf files are out of reach with modem, 
and given that my French is distant and abstract, i was surprised how well 
the ensuing Memoire 1 reads. In as much as i can fathom the English http://voynich.free.fr/gapo.html is very suggestive.
