I once read somewhere that paints from the era we suspect the VMS came
from might well have been rather fugitive and also ambiguous. Reds and
yellows going to brown and black, and greens changing to blues - and
vice versa, sometimes depending on exactly how each batch of paint was
prepared and used. How I wish we could have a proper scientific analysis
of the VMS!
