This sounds highly doable for us now.

Too bad Jim Reeds isn't around right now; he'd be a
great help.
I assume you've had private discussions with him,
Nick. If not, he'd
probably answer a few carefully selected questions.

FWIW, my first step AFA Alberti goes will be to read Anthony Grafton's (2000) biography, which looks to paint an interesting and balanced picture - and step two is to read the (2003) translation of Alberti's Momus on an interlibrary loan. *sigh* so many leads to follow, so little time... :-o

I have finished translating the treatise on decipherment by Cicco Simonetta
but Jim Gillogly tells me the file is too big to post to the list. I will put it on
my web pages when I get round to it (I have changed ISP and I can't easily
get access to my pages). Anybody who wants it as an attachment is
welcome to it.

I next plan to translate Argenti on decipherment and then either Argenti on
encipherment or Alberti on encipherment, unless it has been done already.
Is this Momus, translated in 2003, the same as the treatise which begins
Hi qui maximis rebus agendis and contains the story of the walk in the Papal
garden with Dato?
