Variants as Null Characters in the Voynich Manuscript.
It says (based on entropy)  that gallows are part of the message and are not
ornamental nor null characters.

I have seen some old manuscripts where the ornaments (extended stems) on
l's, b's, d's and t's seem to have the same distribution as our gallows. But
that was just a quick impression - and with the VMS these mostly promise
more than they deliver.
