VMs: Another VMS idea?



Hello Larry,

It is interesting that your example gives a peculiar and difficult to 
describe repetition similar to that of the VMS. The possibility of 
there being two intermingled languages has been mentioned somewhere 
but the rationale for the statement was not given. Various sorting of 
letters on different lines might give a clue to your encryption and 
determine the method of substitution if the method is not too 
variable. It would be tedious unless there is a shortcut. Aside from 
professional recognition of types of ciphers,  how much historical 
codebreaking involved clues not in the cipher itself?
