400dpi / 24bit colour should be nice. Even so, there are still plenty of small details which are disproportionately interesting, where 1200dpi scans might reveal the subtlest of details - what the various non-Voynichese marginalia really say, for example.


I think UV light is out, and any special requests ditto - they have to think of conservation. They also pointed out that not all pages may get scanned - if the conservator decides any are too fragile they will have to wait for full conservation (but this is not scheduled).

AIUI, some of the fold-out pages - in particular the nine rosette 'map' page - have become very fragile over time, and so (I would guess) may be unlikely to be part of this current scanning process. :-(
