Writing for a Wiki is quite different to writing in most other media,
* technically [ie, the markup language],
* conceptually [ie, what you're trying to achieve],
* methodologically [ie, how you're trying to go about it], and
* stylistically [ie, the way you express yourself].
Essentially, the Way Of The Wiki is to:-
(a) cultivate respect for different opinions,
(b) attempt thoughtful (but restrained) synthesis,
(c) try to reflect both the history and the nature of the subject matter,
(d) say just enough - neither too little nor too much,
(e) include useful links to external resources; and (perhaps most importantly)
(f) carry on arguments elsewhere (mailing lists, fora, etc).
To get a better feel for this kind of collaborative writing, browse
http://www.wikipedia.org/ - this has over 250,000 articles currently in
development, very many of which are truly excellent.
Cheers, .....Nick Pelling.....
