It may not be the same for everyone. It's best done
in a slightly different order.
> bifolio
Any complete sheet of vellum in the MS.
It has at least one fold, where it is bound
together with other bifolios. Jim Reeds used
the term 'binding gutter' for this fold,
which is probably the correct technical term.
> quire
A group of one or more bifolios which are folded
together and bound together. There are 18 of them.
There were at least 20. Those numbered 16 and 18
are now lost.
> quire marks
A number written near the bottom of one of the
pages of the MS. Each quire has one, and they
increase from 1 to 20 (skipping 16 and 18).
> folio
Each bifolio consists of two folios, which are
not necessarily of the same size, but they
are separated by the binding gutter. Each folio
has a number which is written in the upper right
corner, as one leaves through the codex.
Some folios have additional folds, and are called
'foldout folios'.

These two terms are used alternatingly and can
mean two different things:
- the folio nr. written on each folio
- the act of writing the numbers on each folio
> page
(Also occasionally called a panel). One folio
has at least two pages, namely when it is not
a foldout. These are the two faces (recto and
verso) of the folio. A foldout folio has more
"pages". Every panel which has text and usually
a drawing is called a page in its own right.

What exactly would you like to know?
'How' in terms of the process or in terms of the
order and grouping?
Cheers, Rene
