An American academic's scholarly materials might well be consigned to an
archive at retirement or decease, and these mostly publish inventories of
their holdings.  They may also be on the web at present.  I know how to
pursue this sort of thing for materials on American languages.  I expect a
reference librarian might know how to pursue it in general.

Of course, they could also have been thrown away or placed in boxes in a
basement prone to flooding or left behind somewhere.  I have run into
those possibilities one way or another.
