Re: VMs: Is It Time?

Isn't it amazing -- We had believed that with the advent of the new Beinecke
scans, the list would make a great leap forward in decrypting the VM. Instead it
has degenerated into rantings on the influence of the church on the flatness of
the Earth, how Kerry could help postmodernists in decomposing the VM, and (yes,
I plead guilty) into timekeeping on two mountains of different height.

Although it may have sounded different in the past, I don't think moderating the
list is a solution, and I also think that Jan's suggestion is neither too
feasible, nor too useful: It'd make discussions about a topic very cumbersome.

But I take the liberty to appeal to the self-moderation of people. Before you
post, you might want to consider what the audience's benefit might be from your
post, if it really is of general interest, or if it is a personal peeve of yours.

And while we're at it: Please, people, could you try to properly edit messages
when you quote them? I don't mind scanning a short mail to find it's not of
interest to me. But it's a bit frustrating when you wade through paragraphs and
paragraphs of old messages only to find one new sentence or two.

Likewise, when you refer to one sentence of a previous post, could you place
your answer under this sentence? It makes everything much easier to read, and
easier to follow your train of thought.

I'm much more willing to devote time to a topic I'm not particularly interested
in when I find the author carefully tried to prepare and format his information
for me.

Thanks,

   Elmar
