Several NASA mission patches show stars in the sky next to the shuttle/capsule
which would not be visible under realistic conditions -- in the broad light
which illuminates the craft.

This doesn't mean NASA isn't interested in spaceflight.

What makes you think so?

My suggestion was merely that the VM author might not have been interested in
rendering accurate images of creatures whose exact appearance is secondary to
astrology, AFAICT.

The quality of his theories won't be affected by how carefully he draws his
sheep, will it?

And the possibility of a hoax should be taken into account, whether we like it
or not.
