VMs: Medieval Cryptography Info

Was searching for data on Hildegard and her Litterae
Ignota and Lingua Ignota and found this site:

http://www.geschichte.uni-muenchen.de/ghw/geheimschriften/einf.shtml

Back to Hildergard later. This site is in German so I
am at a loss in reading it and the Babelfish
translation is pretty abhorrent. Just looking at some
of the manuscript images is very interesting though.
For instance, see:

http://www.geschichte.uni-muenchen.de/ghw/geheimschriften/g4_41_gross.shtml

A medieval substitution alphabet I gather. Lots of
interesting characters, especially one of our gallows
on the third line (representing "b"). Another
gallows(upside down versus VMS) on the second to last
line of:

http://www.geschichte.uni-muenchen.de/ghw/geheimschriften/g4_56_gross.shtml

representing "o". Both from around 1428. I gather as
best I can from the text these are "non diplomatic"
codes.

For diplomatic codes, there's from around 1470:

http://www.geschichte.uni-muenchen.de/ghw/geheimschriften/g11_gross.shtml

with VMS EVA "ch" and "sh" like characters near the
bottom line. Our "qo" appears near the middle of:

http://www.geschichte.uni-muenchen.de/ghw/geheimschriften/g13_gross.shtml

and I quickly recognize one or more "weirdos".

So, maybe this link was known and/or its information
before but it's new to me. If anybody could translate
and highlight some of the important and possibly VMS
relevant information, that would be appreciated.

(Oh, and for Hildegard, just been considering that if
the VMS author used their own character set and a
limited new language/vocabulary mixed in with an
existing language (such as Hildegard), how would we go
about determining this was the case and then
deciphering it?)
