Re: VMs: Olomouc and Barcius

Hello Rene,

You understood I am dubious there.

We are looking for an alchemist, who could have been possessing
VMS.

Perhaps he is Barschius, or Baresch. If he is Barschius, I still think that
"my" Barcius is a serious candidate.

If he has to be Baresch too, which is IMO a working hypothesis, then there
could be two possibilities:
- either this Barcius is not the right person,
- or he is Barcius and Baresch.

We are here dealing with an alchemist; some of them used several "pseudonyms";
other ones are hard to identify, one of the last examples being the French
alchemist Fulcanelli, with no proven identity...in the XXth century.

One reason more to remain cautious, and moreover remains the Barcius/
Barschius similarity.

Please again note: I am just telling here about a theoretical possibility,
and calling for more evidence of whatever opinion.

What are the evidences that Baresch - I insist, Baresch - is the right man?

Cheers,

Jean

Hello Jean-Yves,

Olomouc was one of the prime Jesuit schools in
what is now the Czech republic, and we should not
be surprised to find many men of Jesuit education
to have studied there. Studying with Marci was
also the later Archbishop Harrach, who helped Marci
out of problems with the Jesuits in the 1630's.

Note that our friend Baresch signed his letter to
Kircher as 'Baresch', but is referred to as
'Barschius' in Marci's book and in the Clementinum
records.

Would be nice to know more about this M.Barcius,
but if it really is a pseudonym of one of the
Sternberg family, I would not expect him to
be registered in the Clementinum under a
pseudonym rather than his real name, so it is
hard to imagine it is our friend Barschius.

Cheer! s, Rene
