Just a minor nitpick: one doesn't need to fly over a
particular landmark in order to be able to draw 
what it would look like from above.
Maps were already very accurate before the first
satellite pictures were available.

In any case, I like the idea of comparing the
rosettes page with a S.Marco/H.Sophia type building
very much. 
I wonder if anyone is aware of the existence of 
a mosque or similar building with nine circular
areas as on the rosettes page, where each
room/area is dedicated to a particular science.

This could be in terms of illustrations/inscriptions,
or in terms of 'dedication'. I have had this nagging
feeling (like deja-vu) for a long time now and cannot
pin it down.
