The photos are property of whoever took them (Yale). They can do whatever they
want with them. There is nothing unusual with that.
It is not the contents, it is the photos.
If you take a photo of the Mona Lisa, you can sell it and prevent others to do
that, if not, check the post cards sold at the Louvre. They have a copyright
 and an author too.

 Cheers,

"THEY" [yale] _decided_ to release the newest photos.... :-))
BUT, does yale really 'OWN IT?'.. The unknown who what where how MS?

I think it was GC that spent many an hour asking such permissions AND
finally GOT IT with YALES ~blessing(s)~... I assume THEY (Yale
photographic team) 'released' the extremely helpful and much needed
digital 'images' to the public (domain)... [this would fall under your
Mona Lisa photo of a painting permissions.] I'm not a lawyer, but i
would think releasement to public domain media is a releasment to
public
domain... AND I also believe all CREDIT should be given were credit is
due!
However to WHOM do we give credit? (who what why where when? etc...)
The ~Mystery continues?~

May I or May I NOT keep ALL COPIES OF THE HIGH DIGITAL IMAGES and
point and research it?, POINT and explain about them... H*CK say I
have
ALL the IMAGES HERE (linked/mirrored)..... etc., Can ANYONE OWN the
sword of Truth?.. or is this 'hurdle part of the others Treasure hunt?

Personally, I think we should all have the entire (high resolution)
images on a disk, for study and furthering of data.

best to all
you & yours included mostly
