Yes see for instance Ambrosius Calepinus, the originator of the "calepin" word, whose work I already mentionned in this list.

Interestingly the ebay description for the herbal states that:

"At the end of each commentary the plant's name is given in Latin, Italian, Greek, Arabic, German, Spanish and French."

So in 1558 there seems to have been a knowledge of vernacular naming
across Europe. This may have been a trend much earlier and pre 16th
century.
