Re: RE: VMs: Michelangelo

Here! Here!

I agree with you Rob. I have my own personal interests in VMS but have not performed any viable work towards the solution. As many of those here probably are, I am hopeful that one day VMS will be unlocked and its mysteries known to us. I believe that will happen. I do not believe that it has happened with âms408 project.â My opinions on the matter are certainly not anywhere near those of the more educated on this beautiful piece of work. However, taking an interest in the thing, I believe I still have a right to my âpersonalâ opinions and would like to share them here and now.

The frustrating thing for me when visiting the web site of the âms408 projectâ was that they openly state that it will make no sense unless one reads from page 1 and throughout to get a whole picture of the concept and then they offer a sample that cannot possibly make sense to anyone, by their own admission. While I believe this may be a sales ploy, âbuy our product and youâll have the opportunity to do just that,â I also believe that before I purchase a product, those offering should do a better job of convincing me that it is a worthwhile product to buy. Not simply state that I wonât understand it until I buy their product and read all of it â I think if I spent my money on the CD offered I would only get more of the same and would feel very unsatisfied and no more convinced that VMS has, in fact been translated. The lie attempting to sell me something would only lead to more lies and never to comprehension.

Not knowing the people involved in âms408 projectâ I will NOT say they are deliberately or intentionally selling lies, however I can say that I have fallen for this type of marketing in the past and have never been anything but displeased with the product that came out on the other side. A promise that âonce I purchaseâ all answers will come to me always results in the same disappointment. If a seller cannot make a potential purchaser understand what their product is and why they should buy it, before they buy it, and instead claims that the only way to understand their product âISâ to purchase â to me there does not seem ANY value in that product any more than âSnake Oilâ salesmanship.

âThisâll cure anything and everything under the sunâ The salesmen state.

âYes,â is the response, âBut how does it work?â

âDonât worry about that. Just buy this product and use it and you wonât be sick anymore.â

The samples they give to review, (one assumes to try to convince the visitor to purchase their CD), are incomplete and difficult to follow. They are offering a âsolutionâ to the VMS yet cannot explain theirs, (to my satisfaction) and I personally found nothing that made any sense, let alone would induce my purchase, at any price.

Recently someone posted that those involved in the ms408 project were brilliant marketers â I would disagree with this only because marketing is about giving people enough information to âWantâ to purchase what they are offering â the information given on their web site only served to confuse me and, as also stated before, gave no basis for their claim that theirs is âTHEâ solution to VMS.

The point Rob makes, that they have made themselves, interpreters, translators, judge and jury of their own theories detracts from the usual method of performing the tiresome work of researching and formulating and then offering for âfreeâ review their postulations to be proven out by peers who may have information that could contradict part or all of their work. This is science folks. By refusing to work in this environment they cast doubt on their âinspiration and successesâ themselves.

It seems to me that those involved in the ms408 project are too quick to rush to publish their information at the risk of someone else beating them to it. In the process they cheat themselves of any credibility with those of you who have put time and effort towards the solution but are willing to share your ideas in the hope that the truth will be the end result.

Just my humble opinion.

Mitchell

This is all getting a touch beligerent and rude.

Tom, don't take offense to anybody's attempts to flay the ms408 project alive - it's the nature of an open forum. Normal procedure is to put your theory forward and let it get slashed to ribbons. What annoys us about ms408 is the way they've skipped that part of the process, announced a solution, and demanded money for their 'insights'. I'm sure the authors know that their 'solution' could never survive analysis on the forum, or, at best, are afraid of being made to look stupid. But, we're all allowed to make occasional asses of ourselves here - we even expect it. Most of the best research into the VMS has been done by throwing a wild suggestion to the forum lions and studying the viscera. Six months ago I proudly announced that I'd identified the author (by comparison with another manuscript). I hadn't, of course, and many thanks to all whose comments put me straight. I'd rather look a twit than continue in a pointless direction. The history of VMS study is dotted !
with examples of people who have deluded themselves into seeing something that isn't there (Newbold, Strong, Levitov, etc), but we do respect these scholars. Why? Because they have only deluded themselves - it's all too easy to do - and their research was ultimately carried out for the love of it. We have learned much from their mistakes. I object to the authors of the ms408 project because they are clearly not deluded - they are out to delude, and make a fast buck from it.
