VMs: herbals

Dear Nick and All,

On the recently re-shown BBC documentary about the VMS, someone mentioned more or
less in passing that Rudolph II was particularly interested in herbals. Is this
generally agreed to be correct?
If so, that would make sense of one otherwise weak spot in the "hoax" hypothesis,
namely why any hoaxer would spend time and effort to produce a herbal rather than
something much more exotic. If not, that argument against a hoax remains in place.

(Standard disclaimer here: this question does not mean I'm pushing the "hoax"
hypothesis, just that I'm trying to tidy up a loose end! For what it's worth, I'm
currently investigating a model which would provide a rationale for Dee to play an
active part in preparing the VMS as a coded document with meaningful content...)
