VMs: Re: Re: Inks and retouching
Hello to the list.
A big thank you to Nick Pelling for pointing me to the SID files a few
weeks ago. Talk about "Let there be light"!
I've since joined the mailing list and have read the exchange with
interest. Jorge Stolfi's research into retouching has certainly generated
alot of traffic, but much of it seems to have missed one of his early
points. I disagree with GC's assertion of Aug. 2nd (sorry...) that the
furtherance of knowledge is not in the pictures.
If it can be shown that someone went to the trouble to homogenize what may
have originally included male figures into all female by adding breasts
and big hair, then I think this points to something that they felt was
important to hide.
What pattern would have emerged if the figures were viewed in there
original gender that the retoucher felt might endanger his obfuscation.
